Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting showcased another big-brain moment after Alex Carey lost his wicket exactly how he predicted. On Day 2 of the Australia versus West Indies second Test at the Gabba, Carey was on the offensive right from the get-go as he put up 65 runs for the Aussies in just 48 balls. The Aussie wicketkeeper’s aggression was noticed by Pointing as he told the commentary desk how the West Indies could exploit this attack against him.
“It looks like [Carey’s] eyes are spinning a bit to me. He’s in overdrive at the moment, and wants to hit every ball. I agree with you Bish, just go a bit more defensive, make him play a big shot from a good length ball,” Ponting said. Just when the former skipper had made this comment, Carey lost his wicket to Shamar Joseph on a pull shot.

Australia began the series against the West Indies with a 10-wicket victory at The Adelaide Oval. They will also be looking to bag a second to win the series at home. The second Test at the Gabba began on January 25 with the visitors winning the toss and choosing to bat first. A couple of good innings from Kavem Hodge and Joshua Da Silva helped the Windies put up 311 before being dismissed. Australia began their innings on the second day and soon found themselves in a dire situation losing five wickets at 54 runs in just 12 overs.
That was when Alex Carey stepped onto the pitch to rescue his side. The batter played a powerful knock that included nine boundaries and one six. He did this at an incredible strike rate of 132.65. Carey’s contributions helped Australia finish at 289 runs in their first innings.
In their second innings, having put up 148 runs in 50 overs, the Windies have already lost four wickets. They are looking at posting a good total to remain in control of the game in what is one of the most difficult stadiums in the world to play.
