Tamil filmmaker R Ravikumar made a smashing entry into the industry by directing the 2015 science fiction movie Indru Netru Naalai starring Vishnu Vishal and Miya George. The film, which dealt with time travel turned out to be a surprise hit, being liked by critics and audiences. It took him over 7 years to materialize his second project. Since his penchant for science fiction films was identified, he was roped in to direct another science fiction film Ayalaan starring Sivakarthikeyan right after Indru Netru Naalai itself.
Work on the project started in 2016 with delays in pre-production leading to filming starting as late as 2018. The filming process was disrupted by the pandemic as well and ended in November last year. The release of the film has been postponed multiple times with the team finally having set a target of Diwali this year. However, according to the latest reports, the release date of Ayalaan has been postponed once again.
Sources say that Ayalaan is making use of extensive CGI work and that it is taking a lot of time since Ravikumar is not ready to compromise even for a bit in terms of CGI. The film’s team is striving its best to get the desired output in the CGI work. If the latest reports are to be released, the team has now set a release date for Sankranti next year.
Since the movie is billed as a sci-fi flick that centres around an alien arriving on Earth, there will undoubtedly be a lot of visual effects used in the production. In addition to Rakul Preet Singh, who plays the female lead, the Ayalaan cast also has Sharad Kelkar and actress Isha Koppikar in significant parts. The comedy relief in the movie will be provided by Karunakaran and Yogi Babu. Ayalaan also has the distinction of having 4500 visual effects shots, which is the most for an Indian film. It will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada as well as Hindi.
