New Delhi: The market slipped from higher levels in late trade. The Sensex and Nifty ended up at new highs.
FMCG, metal, auto, technology and oil stocks gained. However, banking, capital goods and pharma stocks lost ground.
The Sensex ended up 19.73 points or 0.19 per cent at 10244.05. It touched an all-time high of 10304.88.
The Nifty closed up 11.30 points or 0.37 per cent at 3062.10. It touched an all-time high of 3078.40.
The CNX Midcap Index ended down 12.75 points or 0.29 per cent at 4332.75. It touched an intraday high of 4372.15 and an intraday low of 4325.80.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed down 33.41 points at 6114.01. The BSE Midcap Index closed down 8.44 points at 4737.40.
The market breadth was negative, about 880 shares advanced, 1558 shares declined, and 72 shares remained unchanged.
The total market turnover was at Rs 50242.65 crore. The NSE Cash turnover was at Rs 8810 crore.
The NSE F&O segment recorded highest ever turnover of Rs 38,165.45 crore. The BSE Cash turnover was at Rs 3267.2 crore.
HLL gained 2.90 per cent at Rs 248.40 on fund buying.
The steel stocks shine on price hike hopes. Sail closed up 6.44 per cent at Rs 64.45 on strong volumes.
Inxo Leisure closed at Rs 174.75, listed at Rs 185 on NSE and 172 on BSE today.
Dynemic Products slipped below its issue price. It closed down at Rs 28.20.
Experts believe that the markets will continue to look positive and will touch the 10,500 levels now.
Bajaj Auto, HLL, Tata Steel, ONGC, Sail and Zee Telefilms were the biggest index gainers.
Ranbaxy Labs, Grasim, Hindalco, SBI, Shipping Corporation and Jet Airways were the biggest index losers.
The BSE FMCG Index outperformed the other indices. It closed up 1.69 per cent at 1942.51 as gains were seen in HLL, Nirma, P&G, Dabur India, Britannia, ITC and McDowell.
Metal stocks like Sail, Jindal Stainless, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Nalco, Welspun Guj and Jindal Saw also ended in green. The BSE Metal Index closed up 0.75 per cent at 7150.36.
Auto stocks including Bajaj Auto, MICO, Escorts, Cummins and M&M also finished lower. The BSE Auto Index ended up 0.55 per cent at 4922.86.
The BSE IT Index closed up 0.33 per cent at 3688.79 amid buying in Hexaware Tech, Satyam, Wipro and MphasiS BFL.
Some oil stocks also moved up. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed up 0.22 per cent at 4484.33.
The BSE Bankex underperformed the other indices. It closed down 1.47 per cent at 5010.48 due to losses in UTI Bank, Andhra Bank, Allahabad Bank, SBI, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank and Oriental Bank.
Consumer Durables stocks like BPL, Samtel Color, Titan Industries, Su-Raj Diamonds and Whirlpool also tumbled. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed down 1.34 per cent at 3150.83.
The BSE Capital Goods Index also closed down 0.87 per cent at 7103.85. Capital goods stocks like Crompton Greaves, Aban LoydChiles, Siemens, ABB, Bharat Electronics, KEC International, Praj Industries, Ingersoll Rand, BHEL, SKF India, HEG and Greaves Cotton ended down on selling pressure.
Pharma stocks including Matrix Lab, Ranbaxy Labs, Nicholas Piramal, Novartis India, Aurobindo Pharma, Glenmark, Divis Labs and Wockhardt also gone down. The BSE Healthcare Index closed down 0.57 per cent at 3614.32.
