New Delhi: Former Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) vice-chairman S Ramadorai resigned as the chief of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) on Tuesday.
The NSDC board is likely to meet on Wednesday to discuss the future road map post the resignation. Sources said the Prime Minister has accepted his resignation.
Skill development secretary Rohit Nandan may step into his shoes, sources told CNN-News18.
Sources close to him said the 71 year-old, who was appointed by the UPA government, had cited health reasons for putting in his papers.
Speculation is rife that Ramadorai may replace beleaguered Cyrus Mistry of the $103 billion Tata Group.
NSDC had plans to skill 150 million people by 2022 in order to provide employment opportunities to the youth.
Last year, NSDC's Managing Director and CEO Dilip Chenoy and its COO Atul Bhatnagar, both appointees of the previous UPA government, had also resigned.
WHO is Subramanian Ramadorai?
Currently, S Ramadorai is working as a director at Tata Sons and Malaysian-owned no-frills airline AirAsia Berhad.
Ramadorai was the Chairman of National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a Public Private partnership arm of the government.
Ramadorai acted as adviser to the Prime Minister of India in the national council on skill development.
He took over as CEO of software giant TCS from FC Kohli in 1996.
