New Delhi: After having good opening and excellent Q3 numbers coming from all across, markets end in red due to less than expected result of Satyam Computer Services and a two-year high rate of inflation.
It was a lackluster day for the markets as the BSE IT, healthcare, capital goods, metal and auto stocks witnessed selling pressure.
The Sensex closed down 35.04 points or 0.25 per cent at 14,182.71, and the Nifty was down 18.90 points or 0.46 per cent at 4,090.15.
The BSE sensitive index had hit a record high of 14,325.92 on Thursday.
About 975 shares have advanced, 1,602 shares declined, and 45 shares are unchanged.
Satyam, Ranbaxy Labs, Wipro, Reliance Energy and M&M were top losers on the indices.
Reliance Comm, Guj Ambuja Cem, ITC, ICICI Bank, MTNL and Zee Entertainment were top gainers on the indices.
The BSE Auto index was down 1.29 per cent or 73.23 points at 5,619.82. Exide Industrie, M&M, Bajaj Auto, Tube Investment and Punj Tractors slipped.
The BSE Bankex closed up 0.28 per cent or 20.59 points at 7,485.48. Kotak Mahindra, Karnataka Bank and ICICI Bank gained.
The BSE Capital Goods index slipped 1.09 per cent or 103.30 points at 9,392.86. Greaves Cotton, Praj Industries, Dredging Cor, Siemens and Thermax ended down.
The BSE FMCG index was up 0.81 per cent or 15.71 points at 1,950.36. Nestle, P&G and ITC advanced.
The BSE Healthcare index declined 1.27 per cent or 49.80 points at 3,885.32. Ranbaxy Labs, Nicholas Pirama, Cipla, Lupin and Orchid Chemical plunged.
The BSE IT index tumbled 1.82 per cent or 98.63 points at 5,309.84. Satyam, Hexaware Tech, Wipro, TCS and Moser Baer ended in red.
The BSE Metal index closed down 1.06 per cent or 96.58 points at 8,972.95. Hind Zinc, Welspun Guj, Jindal Saw, SAIL and Tata Steel close negative.
The BSE Oil & gas index was down 0.09 per cent or 6.24 points at 6,657.89. Reliance Natural, Petronet LNG, ONGC, MRPL and GAIL declined.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 9,040.85 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37,603.55 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4,126.97 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 50,771.37 crore.
