Washington: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the sidelines of the Indo-US business forum.
They are believed to have discussed bilateral relations, including economic ties. The meeting of the CEOs was co-chaired by Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata and Honeywell chief David Cote.
They discussed the draft recommendations, which are expected to be presented to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Barack Obama during the latter's visit to India in November.
Mukherjee said: "There are several reasons why I am optimistic about India's long-run road prospect. For the first time it appears entirely within the realm of possibility that India will break into double digit growth within the next five years."
"As India pursues its development goals, we would like to work with the US especially where our priorities converge, to realise outcomes that are to the mutual benefit of our people," he added.
In reply, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said: "I think that we are just getting started in exploring all of the ways to improve opportunities for trade and investment and foster the kind of inclusive growth that lifts people out of poverty and strengthens our democracies."
