The Kannada film industry is celebrating the birthdays of three of its biggest names today. Fans and industry peers are pouring their love and congratulations to the actors on social media.
On September 18, three big names from the Kannada film industry were born. They are the late actor Vishnuvardhan, Girija (Shruti) and Upendra Rao.
Late Vishnuvardhan’s real name was Sampath Kumar and he was born on September 18, 1950. He worked in Kannada language films, along with working in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films. He made his debut in the film industry with the 1972 film Vamshavruksha which was directed by Girish Karnad. It went on to become a National Award-winning film. Vishnuvardhan’s first film as a lead hero was Naagarahaavu and it was directed by Puttana Kanagal. After that, he was seen with actor Dr Rajkumar in the film Gandhada Gudi which became the highest-grossing Kannada film of 1973. He passed away on December 30, 2009, after suffering from a cardiac arrest. He was 59.
Kannada actress Shruti, whose real name is Girija, was born on September 18, 1975. She has also worked in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. Her career in acting started with the Malayalam film Swantham Ennu Karuthi. She worked as a lead actress in the 1990 film Shruthi, which was directed by Dwarakish. After the success of the film, she became popular as Shruti. She is famous for Kannada films like Taayi Illada Tavaru, Veerappa Nayaka, Gauri Ganesha, Bombat Hendthi and others. Presently, she is working as the Chief Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s women’s wing in Karnataka.
Kannada actor Upendra Rao was born on September 18, 1968. He started his career in films as an assistant director and writer with Kashinath, an actor and director. As an actor, he debuted with the film A, in 1998. He starred alongside Chandini in the film. His first directorial feature was Tharle Nan Maga which was released in 2002.
