Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the new third generation of their sub-4 metre compact sedan DZire which will be launching in India on May 16, 2017. Deliveries of the car will begin on the day of its launch itself. Bookings for the new DZire will begin from the first week of May.
The new Maruti Suzuki offering will only be called ‘DZire’ and not ‘Swift DZire’.
In terms of changes, it gets Suzuki’s new ‘Heartect’ platform which was first seen on the new Swift that was unveiled globally in March at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The biggest advantage of the new platform is that it weighs considerably less thanks to the use of a highly rigid frame which reduces the reinforcements which in turn reduces the overall weight of the car.
To be specific, the new diesel engine-powered DZire weighs 105 kilos less and the petrol engine-powered model weighs 85 kilos less. The reduction in weight should, theoretically, make way for a peppier driving experience and better fuel efficiency.
Changes on the exterior include a new front-end design which takes inspiration from the new generation Swift. The top-end variant of the DZire will come with LED projector headlamps with LED Daytime-Running Lights (DRLs). Even the tail lamps are now LEDs which will be standard across all variants. The side profile of the car remains similarity to the previous generation DZire but now gets new 15-inch alloy wheels for the top-end variant.
Inside the new DZire is a new two-tone interior sporting the classic black and beige combo. The top-end variant of the new DZire will get faux-wood accents on the steering wheel, dashboard and the doors. The steering wheel design has been refreshed as it now comes with a flat bottom design, meant to give a premium and sporty feel. It also gets the touchscreen infotainment system on board like all new Marutis that support Bluetooth, Navigation, SD Card, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. There is also the addition of a rear AC vent to bring it in line with other new offerings in the segment.
Under the hood of the new DZire lies the tried and tested 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine. The power and torque outputs will be announced at the time of the launch. The biggest powertrain change is that the car will now be available with the choice of AMT transmission will be available in four out of five petrol and diesel engine powered variants – Vxi/Vdi, Zxi/Zdi and Zxi+/Zdi+. The base Lxi/Ldi variant will only be available with the 5-speed manual transmission.
